The City of Huntsville, the seat of Walker County, is located in the piney woods and rolling hills of East Texas, approximately 70 miles north of Houston and 170 miles south of Dallas on Interstate 45. It is also conveniently located at the intersection of Texas Highway 30 (west to Bryan-College Station) and Highway 190 (east to Livingston).
There are many projects underway to help strengthen the city and region for economic challenges that lay ahead. There is a need for additional housing units, industrial development, business parks and commercial activities.  It is with these projects and further economic development efforts that Huntsville will realize its full potential as a regional economic powerhouse. The City of Huntsville has a joint Council and Manager form of government, where the Council sets policies and the Manager is responsible for carrying out those policies to enhance the well-being of the Huntsville community.
