Interstate 45 (I-45) Widening Project by TxDOT in the City Limits

The purpose of the project is to enhance freight mobility and address congestion along the I-45 corridor. There are two proposed segments within the Central Walker County Project that are currently under design by TxDOT. These segments are Segment 2A and Segment 2B. More information is available on the TxDOT Project Page.

Segment 2A

Segment 2A is a proposed 4.4-mile long project entirely within the city limits of Huntsville, from  0.3 miles north of State Highway 19 to 0.9 miles north of State Highway 30. TxDOT has scheduled to let the project for construction in September 2020. Construction duration is not available at this time, but initial estimates are that it will take 3 to 4 years to complete this segment of the widening project.

Below, you may view the schematics and a simulated traffic video from TxDOT developed for Segment 2A.
