City Attorney
The City Attorney is the Chief Legal Advisor of the Mayor, City Council and all City Departments. The City Attorney is the attorney for the City of Huntsville, as an entity. Consequently legal matters for private citizens of Huntsville may not be handled by the City Attorney.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and reviewing ordinances, approve or files written legal objections to any ordinance adopted by City Council and the preparation or review or resolutions and contracts or other legal documents
- Providing legal advice to the City of Huntsville's offices and departments and to City officials to assure compliance with state and federal law
- Preparing requests for legal opinions from the Attorney General of the State of Texas
- Supervising or handle all legal proceeding including all civil litigation for the City at the trial and appellate levels
- Prepare for and attendance at the City Council meetings and other meetings as requested
- On call for legal services at any time
