Melissa Templeton is a native Texan. She graduated from Sam Houston State University Magna Cum Laude in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching, and in 1997 with a Master of Arts in Counseling. She also holds a Texas Teaching Certificate and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
After working for several years for Fluor Engineering in Houston, Councilmember Templeton moved to Huntsville in 1978 where she concurrently owned and operated convenience stores, a catering business and a small farm before returning to school in 1995. She has lived in the City of Huntsville for 28+ years, and currently resides in the Avenues.
Melissa teaches part time at Sam Houston State University, conducts a psychotherapy practice in downtown Huntsville, and owns and manages rental properties. She is an avid runner and cyclist, and is a board member for the Rita B. Huff Humane Society. Melissa was recently hired on at Rice University as an Executive Education Program Leader. She is a member of the Finance Committee and the Chairman of the Personnel Committee.
