Residential trash pickup
Trash pickups are placed into 3 categories:
- Regular trash pickup (twice per week)
- Yard trimmings or brush pickup (three times per month)
- Heavy or large trash pickup (on a per call basis only)
Regular trash pickup schedule and important information
Residential solid waste collection service is
provided twice per week: Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday. Customers
inquiring
about collection days at a particular site may contact the Solid Waste
Services Division at 936-294-5723. The residential collection fee is
listed here.
On the days of garbage pickup in a neighborhood, all containers must be set
out by 6:00am and placed no more than 10 feet from the pavement (75 feet for
backdoor pickups). The garbage must be bagged or placed in containers no
larger than 30 gallons in size. Garbage containers or bags must not weigh
over 50 pounds.
Items such as building materials, oil, paint, batteries, appliances, and
yard waste trimmings should not be mixed with regular household garbage or
that garbage will not be picked up. Refer to the Solid Waste Disposal
Transfer Facility and Residential Yard Waste Trimmings sections below for
more information on these programs, or contact the Solid Waste Services
Division at 936-294-5723.
Yard trimmings/brush pickup schedule and important information
Residential solid waste collection service is provided three times per month: The 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month. The residential collection fee is listed here.
Customers must place grass and leaves in bags or in 30 gallon containers if not bagged. The bag or container weight must not exceed 50 pounds or it will not be picked up. Tree limbs and brush must be cut no longer than 4 feet and not be larger than 4 inches in diameter. Tree limbs and brush must be tied securely in bundles which cannot be more than 2 feet thick in diameter nor weigh over 50 pounds. All yard waste materials must be placed within 10 feet of street pavement.
City of Huntsville citizens may present a current water utility bill to
dispose of yard trimmings free of charge at the Disposal Facility yard waste
pile. The yard trimmings must not be bagged. The same weight and size
criteria applies as listed in paragraph above. For more information on yard

Heavy trash pickup schedule and important information
Heavy Trash/Large Yard Waste Collection for
residential customers requires a call-in
to 294-5796. Residential customers must leave their complete name, address,
phone
number and type of heavy item to be placed on a pick up list. Heavy
Trash/Large Yard
Waste will be collected on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.
Guidelines for Heavy Trash / Large Yard Waste Collection

The City of Huntsville Residential Solid Waste Division will collect heavy trash /
large yard waste on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays by call-in request only - (936) 294-5796. Provide your full name, address, telephone number and type of item(s) to be collected. -
Request for pick-up shall be placed a minimum of one week prior to the scheduled
collection day. No heavy trash shall be placed at the road edge earlier than five days
prior to the scheduled 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. -
Heavy trash is large yard waste, furniture, appliance/white goods, building
construction material and miscellaneous heavy debris from residential sites. -
Large yard waste includes limbs and branches which must be prepared for pickup by
using the following guidelines:- Limbs and branches up to a maximum of eight (8) feet in length which should be placed curbside and cut ends must face the road
- Tree limbs larger than twelve (12) inches in diameter must be cut to a maximum three feet in length
- Large brush must be stacked, unbound and in one row along the road edge no higher than four (4) feet

These items shall be placed in separate piles along the road edge:
- Appliances/white goods such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters and miscellaneous metal appliances (door removed)
- Building construction material such as lumber, doors, windows, etc
- Miscellaneous Heavy Debris including large boxes, moving debris, and tires removed from the rims. The City will not collect tractor tires.

Items shall be placed along the road edge approximately five (5) feet from garbage
cans and other obstacles such as mail boxes, fences and parked cars. Avoid placing large brush and bulky items under low-hanging tree limbs or power lines. -
The following items are not collected as part of the “Heavy Trash/Large Yard Waste
Collection” program:- Loose or bagged household garbage;
- tractor tires
- commercial sites or commercial use;
- construction building sites
- property vegetation clearance

Single family residential pickup – minimum charge: $15.81/month
Multi-family residential pickup:
- Individually metered units
