Recycling information

The recycling drop-off center accepts only self-haul recyclable items and is located at 590 I-45 North.  Facility hours and directions are provided on the right hand side of the page.  Acceptable items and other pertinent information is shown in the below.

 

Holiday schedule

The Recycling Drop-Off Center is closed on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

 

CANS

  • Aluminum (soda cans, beer cans, some food can)

  • Flattened or unflattened. Place in plastic trash bags. Keep aluminum cans separate from steel cans.

  • NO ALUMINUM FOIL PIE PANS OR ALUMINUM FOIL.

  • Steel Cans (vegetable cans, dog food cans, etc.) Rinse out the can. Leave the label on. Put the cans in plastic trash bags. Paint cans are O.K. if all the paint is rinsed out.

  GLASS

  • Clear or brown glass only. Throw away lids. Rinse out. Leave label on. Place clear glass and brown glass in separate containers.

  • PLEASE: NO GREEN OR BLUE GLASS, NO WINDOW PANES, NO LIGHT BULBS, NO DRINKING GLASSES OR CHINA DISHES.

NEWSPAPERS

  • Whatever comes in the newspaper can be recycled. Stack and put in paper bags or cardboard boxes.

  • DO NOT PLACE IN PLASTIC BAGS.

  • THROW AWAY PLASTIC RAIN SLEEVES AND RUBBER BANDS.

MAGAZINES, CATALOGS, PHONE BOOK

  • Keep separate from newspaper. Place in brown bags or small cardboard boxes.

  • DO NOT PLACE IN PLASTIC BAGS.

PLASTIC

Only #1 AND #2 plastics are recyclable. Look for the recycle logo on the bottom of the container. 80% of all plastic containers from the grocery store are recyclable.

  •  Large Jugs (milk jugs, water jugs, etc.) Throwaway cap or lid. Rinse with warm water. Put on the floor and step on it to flatten it. Put in plastic trash bags by themselves. KEEP THESE JUGS SEPARATE FROM SODA BOTTLES OR COLORED PLASTIC.

  • Other #1 and #2 Plastic Containers (soda bottles, detergent bottles, fabric softener bottles, etc.)Throwaway cap or lid. Rinse with warm water. Place in plastic trash bags. KEEP THESE CONTAINERS SEPARATE FROM LARGE JUGS.

  • Syrup bottles #3

  • Catsup bottles #7

  • Snap-on coffee can lids #4

Plastic wraps, Shrink wrap, Bubble wrap

REMEMBER:
ONLY #1 AND #2 PLASTICS ARE RECYCLABLE.

PAPER

Computer Paper: Do not remove the side tabs. Put back in the box it came in.

White Office Paper: Remove post-it notes, paper clips, staples, etc. Put in small boxes or paper sacks.

School Paper

  • White school paper - Remove post-it notes, paper clips, staples, etc. Put in small boxes or paper sacks.

  • Colored school paper - Should be kept separate from white school paper, but all colors can be collected together. The key is the color of the paper, not the color of the ink or crayon. Place in small boxes or paper sacks.

  • DO NOT MIX WHITE PAPER WITH COLORED PAPER.

CARDBOARD

  • Toilet paper cores, cracker boxes, cereal boxes, 12-pack containers, large boxes such as shipping boxes.

  • Some brown paper bags (sugar bags, cattle/horse feed bags, dog/cat food bags). Empty all contents, including packing materials and cotton string. No bags with plastic liners.

NOTE: SAVE ALL CARDBOARD BOXES TO COLLECT THE RECYCLABLE PAPER.
