The City of Huntsville Parks and Leisure Department has rescheduled the free Scotts® Major League Baseball® Pitch Hit & Run™ and MLB® Jr. Home Run Derby Competition for boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, for Saturday, May 5th, at Kate Barr Ross Park.
The City of Huntsville Parks and Leisure Department will host a free Scotts® Major League Baseball® Pitch Hit & Run™ and MLB® Jr. Home Run Derby Competition for boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, Saturday, May 5th, at Kate Barr Ross Park. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with competitions starting at 10 a.m.
“The Pitch Hit & Run™ is a grassroots program designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to participate, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball and softball skills,” said Parks Administrative Coordinator Penny Joiner. “The Jr. Home Run Derby is a fun and exciting competition and a way for talented youngsters to showcase their hitting abilities, with a chance at participating at the National Finals during MLB® All-Star Week™.”
Joiner explained more about Pitch Hit & Run™, noting that boys and girls are divided into four age divisions with the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals during the 2018 MLB® All-Star Week™.
Jr. Home Run Derby™ is divided into two age divisions with a chance to advance through three levels of competition. The local champions from both age divisions will advance to the Regional level, and Regional Champions will advance to the National Finals.
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parents or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.
