Mayor Andy Brauninger has been selected as the new President for the Texas Municipal League's (TML) Region 14.
Mayor Andy Brauninger has been selected as the new President for the Texas Municipal League’s (TML) Region 14. Mayor Brauninger served as the TML Region 14 Vice President for the last year and was unanimously elected to serve as President by area elected municipal officials at the Region 14 Fall Meeting in Galveston.
The term of office will be for two years. As President, Mayor Brauninger will preside over the Region 14 meetings and work with the member cities of the Region. Also elected were Mayor Joe Zimmerman of Sugar Land as Vice President, Councilmember Tamara Young-Hector of Willis as Regional Director. H-GAC Intergovernmental Relations Manager Rick Guerrero will serve as the Secretary-Treasurer for Region 14, with the aid of Executive Assistants Cynthia Jones and Nydia de la Garza.
The Texas Municipal League's membership includes over 16,000 elected mayors, councilmembers, city managers, city attorneys, and city department heads by virtue of their cities' participation (1,159 of the roughly 1,200 cities in Texas are members). TML provides its members with legal guidance and information on municipal legal matters, representation for cities on municipal legislative issues at the state and federal levels, onsite and online training covering city-related topics, and publications for city leadership. TML's Region 14 is composed of municipalities in the following counties - Houston, Madison, Trinity, Walker, Grimes, San Jacinto, Montgomery, Harris, Colorado, Austin, Waller, Wharton, Fort Bend, Matagorda, Brazoria, Galveston, and Chambers.
In addition to the election, municipal representatives from the Region attended the following workshops:
- Resources for Long-Term Harvey Recovery; Josh Owens, Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) Senior Planner, Community & Environmental
- Communicating With the Public During an Epic Disaster; Patti Jett, City of West University Place Communications Director
- Legislative Update; Scott Houston, TML Deputy Executive Director of Policy and General Counsel.
