The Huntsville Fire Department (HFD) was notified of a building on fire in the 1500 block of Sam Houston Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2019. Initial reports, provided by the Huntsville Police Department, advised that there was a fire visible on the second floor of the structure. HFD units arrived on scene and immediately began suppression efforts.
“The crews worked diligently to suppress the fire and keep the fire contained to the building of origin,” said Fire Chief Greg Mathis. “The fire was quickly brought under control and overhaul operations were conducted.”
No injuries were reported, and fire crews determined the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. HFD was assisted by units from Huntsville-Walker County EMS and the New Waverly Fire Department.
An Origin and Cause investigation was initiated by the Fire Marshal’s office. Investigators requested technical and expert assistance from the Texas State Fire Marshal’s office and the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s office. This is an active and ongoing investigation and the cause has not yet been determined. No additional information will be released at this time.
