The City of Huntsville is pleased to announce the hiring of two new experts in the Main Street and Tourism divisions.
The City of Huntsville Economic Development Department is pleased to announce the hiring of two new experts in the Main Street and Tourism divisions. Tracy Chappell is the new Main Street Program Coordinator and Sarah Faulkner is the new Visitor Center Coordinator at the Sam Houston Statue Visitors Center.
Chappell has called Huntsville home since 2010 when she came to study Public Relations at Sam Houston State University. She went on to earn a master’s degree in Sport Management leading her to work with the Houston Texans, Houston Rockets, and the Sam Houston State Athletic Department.
While working in the sports industry, Chappell has established a skill set working with corporate sponsors, event management, marketing, and branding. She is eager to take this skill and bring a new perspective to the City and Main Street.
“It is exciting to be challenged and use my education and experience in a new industry,” Chappell said. “Huntsville is experiencing such unique growth and transformation as a community that it is impossible to not want to be a part of that process. Downtown is a unique place that has the potential to become even more special.”
Faulkner’s love of history led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in History from Sam Houston State University and a master’s degree in Museum Science from Texas Tech University.
Throughout her career, Faulkner has worked at a variety of museums and non-profit institutions including the Sam Houston Memorial Museum, Lubbock Lake National Historic Landmark, Galveston Naval Museum, and Battleship TEXAS State Historic Site. She has gained experience in administration, education, and volunteer coordination at each of her jobs and loves sharing her passion for history with volunteers and members of the public.
Faulkner has gained certifications as a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation and a Master Interpreter through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
“I am glad to be back in Huntsville and am amazed by the city’s growth in the past several years,” Faulkner said. “I look forward to working joining the team here to share the story of Sam Houston’s life, the creation of the statue, and to showcase the wonderful aspects of the city of Huntsville.”
Economic Development/Special Projects Director Tammy Gann said we are very excited to have Chappell and Faulkner join our team. She added that their experience and enthusiasm about Huntsville will help with the energy and efforts to continue to make Huntsville the economic, social and cultural destination of choice.
