Southbound IH-45 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, July 26, until 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27, and one lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27, until 10 a.m. Sunday, July 28.
All southbound traffic must exit IH-45 at Exit 113, toward Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. State Highway (SH) 19 Southbound Direct Connect will also be closed during this time to through traffic, and the IH-45 SB entrance ramp between Exit 113 & Exit 112 will be closed. SH 19 Southbound traffic will have to exit at SH 75 and utilize PR 40 to continue on IH 45 southbound.
This closure is necessary to set concrete traffic barrier and place pavement markings necessary to shift traffic from the southbound lanes to the new concrete pavement for the next phase of construction. Northbound traffic will not be directly impacted by this closure and will remain in its present location until the new southbound lanes are reconstructed. TxDOT encourages motorists to seek alternate routes due to expected delays.
Once SH 19 and IH-45 are re-opened to traffic, the SH 19 Southbound Direct Connect to IH-45 will be closed and SH 19 Southbound Direct Connect traffic will be directed to merge with the West Frontage Road north of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. This configuration will remain in place until the new southbound concrete pavement is completed after the next phase of construction and opened to traffic.
Also during the week of July 21, the existing IH-45 Southbound Entrance Ramp from the West Frontage Road south of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway will be closed and the Temporary Southbound Entrance Ramp south of Augusta Drive will be opened.
The construction of the 6 miles widening project, Segment 1B of IH-45 from 0.5 miles north of Vick Springs Road to 0.3 miles north of SH 19 is underway. This project will widen IH-45 to six lanes and will replace the State Park Road 40 bridges and southbound SH 19 Flyover. During the 3-year project, multiple lane shifts and relocation of traffic will take place at various times to accommodate construction activity. IH-45 and SB SH 19 will also be closed at various times for the safety of the traveling public and construction workers.
The reconstruction of IH-45 will take place in two major phases. Phase 1 is underway and will include the addition of Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, northbound SH 19 Bridge and a new southbound SH 19 flyover. Phase 2, will include replacement of the Park Road 40 bridges. Johnson Bros. Corporation, a Southland Company was awarded the construction contract for the amount of $116,878,722.89.
