The Huntsville Public Library, in cooperation with the Walker County Genealogical Society, will host the State-Wide 2019 Genealogy Lock-In in celebration of Family History Month. This event takes place Friday, October 18 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. at the Huntsville Public Library. Join us in the Staggs Community Room for this unique genealogical event. There will be presentations live-streamed from other libraries around the state that will also be participating. This is the first year that the Huntsville Public Library will be participating in this event… please come and help make it a success! The event is FREE, but registration is required. If you plan to attend the noon-1:30 event, sandwiches will be available if you have registered.

Story Time is a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under at the Huntsville Public Library. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts three times a week in the Staggs Community Room. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. Story Time offers caregivers and parents an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. There is something new each week! Sign-up is not required. Story Time is held on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings, and Friday mornings.

Join us for “Ghosts & Legends of Huntsville” at 5 p.m. on Friday October 18 and 25 to hear about the history and folklore of multiple locations in Huntsville. Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.

The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Sign-up is not required. This program is for adults 17 and older.
