The Huntsville Public Library Friends’ Art Contest will be held during Summer 2019. This year’s theme is “Heroes and Villains.” The contest is open for all five through 18 year olds and fifteen winners will be selected. Correctly filled out submission forms are required to be eligible as is artwork that adheres to the submission guidelines. The deadline to submit your artwork is Monday, August 12. Winners will be announced in September.

Story Time is a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under at the Huntsville Public Library. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts three times a week in the Staggs Community Room. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. Story Time offers caregivers and parents an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. There is something new each week! Sign-up is not required. Story Time is held on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings, and Friday mornings.

If your family tree is missing some branches, then sign up for “Exploring Ancestry.com”, a workshop devoted to teaching the basics of this online family history resource. The workshop will be held on the first Friday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Develop the skill sets needed for online genealogical research. Learn how to navigate the different learning centers and databases. Discover family tree members using Ancestry.com tools such as vital, census, military, and immigration records. The site is free to library patrons when used on the library’s computers. Limit 4 per session.

Engage your brain with the fascinating side of chemistry at the Huntsville Public Library. Dr. Jim Pennington will bring the Texas A&M Chemistry Roadshow to the library at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7. This presentation uses “chemical wonders that turn ordinary objects and events into exciting learning experiences.” This presentation is best suited for second-grade students to adults. Sign up is not required but limited seating is available.

Start your weekend off with a fun, free family event at the Huntsville Public Library. Family Movie Night will now start at 4:30 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. Join us in the Staggs Community Room, for an animated film about arcade characters who discover the Internet. Enjoy complimentary sweets during the movie. Sign-up is not required.
