The Huntsville Public Library Friends’ Art Contest will be held during Summer 2019. This year’s theme is “Heroes and Villains.” The contest is open for all five through 18 year olds and fifteen winners will be selected. Correctly filled out submission forms are required to be eligible as is artwork that adheres to the submission guidelines. The deadline to submit your artwork is Monday, August 12. Winners will be announced in September.

Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.

Would you like to read ebooks on a new smartphone or tablet? Great! The Huntsville Public Library has the OverDrive app that will let you borrow digital ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and educational video with your library card, and it's all free. If you have questions about downloading or using OverDrive, come join us at 11 p.m.Tuesday, July 9 in the Nash Board Room at the Huntsville Public Library. Participants are welcome to bring their own laptop and tablet or use a library laptop.

Are you a parent or caregiver looking for tips to style your child’s hair? Are you looking for new ideas for children’s hair styles? Come to “My Grownup and Me” for hair styling classes for children and their caregivers at the Huntsville Public Library. Classes will be taught by Tonya Collum, local salon owner, and will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11 and Tuesday, July 9. “My Grownup and Me” is best suited for ages 12 and under with an adult. Registration is required. Please bring your own hair care supplies and tools.

Story Time is a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under at the Huntsville Public Library. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts three times a week in the Staggs Community Room. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. Story Time offers caregivers and parents an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. There is something new each week! Sign-up is not required. Story Time is held on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings, and Friday mornings.
