On Tuesday morning, October 8, beginning at 4 a.m. northbound SH 19 at Southwood will be closed until 6 a.m. the same day. This closure is necessary to set bridge beams for the new northbound SH 19 bridge flyover.  Southwood will remain open during the two hours.  Message Boards will be placed prior to the closure and detour signs will be placed along the detour routes to alert and guide traffic through the detour.

Additionally, the Southbound IH-45 Temporary Exit Ramp at Mile Marker 107 will be closed starting Tuesday morning, October 8. Southbound traffic should use the Exit 109 – Park Road 40. Southbound traffic will be shifted to the median in order to reconstruct the existing southbound lanes. Southbound traffic wanting to access PR 40, SH 150, FM 1374 and FM 1375 must use Exit 109 - PR 40. Message boards will be placed north of the PR 40 exit informing travelers to use Exit 109 - PR 40 to access New Waverly, SH 150, FM 1374 and FM 1375. New temporary exit to access New Waverly, SH 150, FM 1374, FM 1375, is expected to open Friday, October 11, 2019. The new temporary exit will be located north of the existing ramp and south of Park Road 40 at approximately Mile Marker 108.

This project will widen IH-45 to six lanes and will replace the State Park Road 40 bridges and southbound SH 19 Flyover. During the 3-year project, multiple lane shifts and relocation of traffic will take place at various times to accommodate construction activity. IH-45 and southbound SH 19 will also be closed at various times for the safety of the traveling public and construction workers.

The reconstruction of IH-45 will take place in two major phases. Phase 1 is underway and will include the addition of Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, northbound SH 19 Bridge and a new southbound SH 19 flyover.  Phase 2, will include replacement of the Park Road 40 bridges. Johnson Bros. Corporation, a Southland Company was awarded the construction contract for the amount of $116,878,722.89.
