The City of Huntsville Parks and Leisure Department would like to remind the public that precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of all during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Parks and Leisure Director Penny Joiner announced Friday, May 1, that the Parks division opened playgrounds and restrooms at city parks.
“We encourage everyone to continue to practice social distancing by remaining six (6) feet away from other patrons of the park that are not in your immediate group,” Joiner said. “The workout station located in Eastham-Thomason Park has also been reopened. The volleyball and basketball courts are also open to the public with a maximum of four (4) participants per court.”
Joiner asked citizens to respect the presence of other individuals on the courts and continue to practice social distancing. All adult and youth organized sports remain postponed until further notice.
“We have also canceled all rentals through May 15 at City facilities, including the Huntsville Public Library, Aquatic Center, Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center, Gazebo, and Field Rentals,” Joiner said. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.”
