Patrons of the City Pool can now enjoy splashing around in the pool while charging mobile devices on the newly installed solar-powered table and bench.
The City of Huntsville partnered with students and staff from the Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Engineering department to provide solar-powered shade structures at the Frank D. "Poncho" Roberts Aquatics Center, 912 Avenue N. Parks and Leisure Director Penny Joiner explained that through the partnership, the City paid for the supplies and the students provided labor for the structures. The shade structures are covered with solar panels providing the necessary power for charging mobile devices. The table and bench were installed by SHSU’s Dr. Keith Coogler and his engineering students on Monday, August 3. More information about the Aquatics Center is online at HuntsvilleTX.gov/Aquatics.
