[ARCHIVED] National Library Week- April 4-10, 2021

NLW 2021 Graphic-English

CHECK US OUT ONLINE TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK APRIL 4-10, 2021!

Huntsville Public Library issues Daily Challenges to mark National Library Week.

National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April. It is a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians, and library personnel play in transforming lives, enriching families, and building community. This year’s theme is “Welcome to your library,” which promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building and everyone is welcome to use their services.

This National Library Week, you can show your appreciation and support for libraries by visiting your library’s website and following them on social media. During the week, daily challenges will be posted on Huntsville Public Library’s website at www.myhuntsvillelibrary.com to encourage community members to use the library’s resources and interact in person or through email or social media for an opportunity to be featured in future library marketing materials.

National Library Week 2021 Daily Challenges

Super Star Sunday, April 4 – Nominate a stellar library worker to the National Library Workers Day Galaxy of Stars by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/r/SubmitAStarforNLWD.   Whether it is someone at Huntsville Public Library or elsewhere around the state or country, submit the name of a library worker who has made a difference for you and let everyone know why they are a Star!  In consideration of the Easter Holiday, you may complete this challenge on Monday instead. Submit a screenshot of the “Thank you for submitting” page once you submit your Star.

Much Love Monday, April 5 – Share the love in a quick video or social media post or by sending us a drawing or note that completes the following statement:  The Huntsville Public Library is important to me because…

Toast of the Town Tuesday, April 6 – Join Huntsville Public Library staff for the April 6 City Council Meeting, which begins at 6:00 pm, to hear the Mayor’s National Library Week 2021 proclamation.  Attend in person as local social distance requirements allow or online at www.HuntsvilleTX.gov/Meetings. Submit something from the meeting you find interesting or important in addition to the Proclamation.

Wilderness Wednesday – Use a library resource to learn about Native Texas flora and fauna.   Then, try to find a real-life example at one of our City, State, or National Parks. Please keep a safe distance and don’t touch the wildlife. Post a picture of you in the “wilderness” with a caption telling us what you looked for, what you found, and something new you learned.

Thrilling Thursday Tale Tails April 8 – Craft a homemade tail based on a favorite tale for members of your family/household.  Submit or post pictures wearing the tail and tell us which tale inspired the creations.

Fine Arts Friday, April 9 – Help us welcome the weekend by enjoying a live musical performance at the Huntsville Public Library beginning at 5:00 pm April 9.  Attend in person as local social distance requirements allow or stream it live from the HuntsvillePublicLibrary Facebook page.

Self on the Shelf Saturday, April 10 – Using a book that has a face on the cover, digitally insert or affix a picture of yourself (without damaging the book cover) in place of the book’s face OR cover your face with the one on the book and take a photo. Be sure to submit or post a copy of your creation or photo to social media so everyone can spot you.

Daily challenge submissions may be emailed to HPL@huntsvilletx.gov or posted to Facebook at HuntsvillePublicLibrary, Instagram at Huntsville_Public_Library, or Twitter @huntsvillelib Alternatively, you are welcome to bring them to the library in person between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. weekdays.

For more information about National Library Week, please call Library Services Specialist Brenda Collins at (936) 291-5481.
