KRABS (Kiwanis Readers Are Bound for Success)

About the Program

Huntsville Public Library participates in KRABS, a national program that fosters literacy and the motivation to read among our community's children by delivering free books to them when they visit the library. Twice each fall, area 3rd graders visit the library and are treated to special productions and activities followed by the opportunity to choose a free book to keep for themselves.

Sponsors

Reading is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF) is the oldest and largest non-profit organization designed to foster a love of reading in our youth.  RIF, the Huntsville Public Library, the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville KRABS (Kiwanis Readers are Bound for Success), and Huntsville schools partner to sponsor this program for our local 3rd grade students.

Funds

To purchase books, the Kiwanis club organizes fundraisers and collects local funds. The Huntsville Public Library acts as host and coordinates the program and distribution of books. Huntsville area schools provide transportation to and from the Library. Last year, RIF distributed over 1,400 books to the children of Huntsville.
