  1. Diabetes Self-Management Workshop

    November 12, 2018, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

    These two-hour workshops begin at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays from November 12 through December 17 at Staggs Community Room in the Huntsville Public Library and are focused around self-managed care for Diabetes. Sponsored by Texas A&M Center for Population Health & Aging and hosted by Huntsville Public Library, they are designed to help participants deal with the symptoms of Diabetes, such as fatigue, pain, stress, and frustration. Other topics covered include healthy eating, medication use, and working with healthcare providers. Limited to 16 participants, classes are hands-on and highly interactive. Cecilia “Ce” Schlicher, Master Trainer, and works under the Texas A&M Center for Population Health & Aging license.

    Health issues confronting Seniors become more important as the aging population of baby boomers learns to cope with a variety of physical and mental challenges. A series of workshops during October and November at the Huntsville Public Library will address nutrition, brain health, heart health, and how to guard against the cold and flu season. “Eat Right for Healthy Aging” will be the first presentation by Lynette Azar of Angels Care Home Health from 11-12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2 in the Staggs Community Room.

  10. Shakespeare Theater for Teens - Rehearsals

    Following the success of the summer theater bootcamp program, the Huntsville Public Library is pleased to offer another semester of “Shakespeare Theater for Teens” in conjunction with the Huntsville Independent School District. Interested participants between the ages of 12 and 17 are invited to audition for the upcoming theatrical production at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 20. Following the auditions, theater rehearsals will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 27, October 4, October 18, October 25, November 1, November 15, and November 29. The program will be led by HISD teacher Ian McPhail. Performance dates are to be announced at a later time. Registration is required.

    Teenagers, are you looking for a place to work on homework or just decompress after school? Come to the Huntsville Public Library’s After School Zone where teenagers can come to the library’s Nash Board Room at 4:30 p.m. for a quiet place to work on homework or play board games. Sign-up is not required but space is limited. Participants must be between the ages of 13 and 18. November’s sessions will be held on Monday, November 19. Pizza will be provided, but teens are encouraged to bring their own drink in a spill-proof container.
