ISO Information

The Insurance Services Office Incorporated, or ISO, and the Texas Department of Insurance, State Fire Marshal's office, has assigned the Huntsville Fire Department, a Public Protection Class rating of 2. This is commonly referred to as an ISO rating. The Huntsville Fire Department is proud of this rating. Chief Mathis, and the department staff have work hard to ensure this goal is maintained. The department would not be able to continually achieve this goal without the support of city leadership.

This applies to each homeowner's, commercial general liability and/or business owner's policy. For more information on ratings, please contact the Texas Department of Insurance at 1-800-444-4554 or www.tdi.state.tx.us.

About ISO

  • ISO is an independent organization that measures the quality of public fire protection on which insurance premiums are based.
  • ISO provides insurance companies, insurance regulators and fire departments, with the data they collect about fire risk in their communities.
  • ISO employees visit thousands of fire districts each year in effort to review the firefighting capability and adequacy of water systems in those communities.
  • ISO analyzes the relevant data and assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC); A number from 1 to 10. Class 1, the highest level providing exemplary fire protection, and Class 10 indicating that the area's fire-suppression program does not meet ISO's minimum criteria.
